Interview with Brett White
Founder @ Be Leadership & SportsMindSHiFt

Be Leadership believes that the key to shaping organisational and personal change lies in the way people think. Often, misalignment in the workplace is due to lack of self-awareness, and the repercussion of unhelpful behaviours that hinder personal and professional growth. BE Leadership focuses directly at the heart of the leader, with an understanding that it is critical for a leader to learn how to lead out of who they are. Research shows that the most effective leaders are those who are committed to developing self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and relational management skills.
What's next for your work with Be Leadership? What are the main clients, trainings, curriculums and partnerships you'll be focusing on in 2019?
In 2019 we'll continue to work alongside some great companies and people and leaders in Sydney but also my work in Phnom Penh Cambodia. I go there about three or four times a year to come alongside emerging leaders in a developing world and that really excites me. In 2019 I'll continue to develop some great programs, some great training manuals, some great options and opportunities for leaders, teams and organisations to grow and develop and be all they can be.
Hi Brett! Could you please introduce Be Leadership and what led to your founding the company back in 2013? How has the company grown since it was first founded?
I'm Brett from Be Leadership, in Sydney Australia. Be Leadership is a business that I started in 2013 which came out of a desire for me to use my experience and skills to help train, coach and equip leaders, teams and organisations to be the best that they can be. I've had the privilege of doing that here in Sydney but also in Phnom Penh in Cambodia where I get to work alongside leaders, emerging leaders of a developing country, that are hungry to grow and develop in who they are. Be Leadership focuses on the internal nature of a leader and if we can help a leader understand who they are, their mindset, their thinking and their behaviours we can help them create the outcomes and the results that they want to get in leadership, in teams by developing brilliant culture. Brilliant culture in an organisation or a team is our heart and focus.
How does SportsMindSHiFt help companies and individuals hone their own leadership skills through sports and teamwork?
SportsMindSHiFt is a part of the big Be Leadership organisation. What I realised through my love for sports and my love for leadership, was that in the sporting realm there was a focus on skills development for athletes and players, but not so much in the area of leadership and mindset. SportsMindSHiFt works with coaches, teams and clubs to help them create a great culture in their teams and to help coaches realise that they are also leaders of people. We want to help them understand how the mind is a powerful tool in the arena of sport. We use the same principles that we do in leadership development in the corporate and not for profit world, and we apply them to the sporting context and come alongside coaches, elite athletes, and teams so that they can be the best that they can be.
What has been the feedback from the community regarding Be Leadership & SportsMindSHiFt? How do you find new clients for your services?
Be Leadership and SportsMindSHiFT are constantly receiving great feedback from the community. We're coming alongside organisations, people and teams, and helping them be the best that they can be, helping them reach the outcomes and the results that they really desire to reach. The feedback that we continue to get is really encouraging, really positive and really exciting. Most of the clients that I get for Be Leadership and SportsMindSHiFT come through referral and so it's people experiencing something fantastic and wonderful and life-changing and then telling their friends about it and that's how most of our clients come in contact with Be Leadership and SportsMindSHiFT.
You've been leading people and working as a leadership coach for over 25 years. How did you realize you had a penchant for teaching others how to best lead their teams and companies?
Twenty-five years is a long time to be involved in one particular area. I love leadership and I love seeing leaders, people and teams, reach their potential. It's what brings me alive and I believe that it's my purpose, to empower others to be the best that they can be. Twenty-five years of experience has taught me a lot. I've seen a lot, I've encountered a lot and what I realised is the same issues and problems and tensions exist in every team or organization. Whether they're a big corporate company, or a small startup, or a not for profit, or a community organisation, or a sporting team. It's empowered me to see that change and to experience the growth and development of others. I love to come alongside people, I love to help them get those revelations about who they're so that they can be the best that they can be. I continue to get and experience those results in people and it continues to bring me alive as I do that with people and organisations around the world.
